How to create and reuse a custom Gamma theme

Save approved fonts, colors and a logo as a reusable Gamma theme. Learn what follows the preset, what stays with a file and what to check before sharing it.

To reuse a custom Gamma theme, style one gamma, then choose Styles → Theme → Save as. In another file, use Styles → Theme → Apply theme preset to select the saved version. Gamma’s theme guide (opens in a new tab) explains that themes live on individual files, so saving a preset does not make every existing deck update automatically. Keep the approved choices and test results in fenbs so another person or AI can continue the design work without guessing what was agreed.

How do you save your first reusable theme?

Start with a small working example rather than a finished presentation full of exceptions. Include a title, a paragraph, a link and an image. This makes it easier to see whether the basic visual choices work together before you name the result as the approved preset.

  1. Open the gamma whose visual style you want to reuse. Adjust its theme using your approved fonts, colors, slide styling and accent images.
  2. Check the sample content against the brand reference. Resolve unclear choices with the person who approves the design.
  3. Open Styles → Theme → Save as. This saves the file’s theme to the workspace.
  4. Open a different gamma and choose Styles → Theme → Apply theme preset. Select the saved theme.
  5. Inspect that second file before telling colleagues the preset is ready. Record any changes still needed.

These are the documented file-theme and workspace-preset steps (opens in a new tab). A useful test includes both a short heading and the longest realistic heading your team uses. A theme that looks balanced with three words may need another review when the title wraps.

What should the brand checklist include?

Write the intended choices before making visual adjustments. For example, a small architecture studio might approve a dark heading color, a pale background, one body font and an understated accent image style. This is a hypothetical checklist, not a claim that a particular combination is automatically accessible.

  • Fonts: the approved heading and body choices, plus who resolves a missing-font problem.
  • Colors: the approved values and the situations in which each should be used.
  • Logo: the approved asset and whether each type of presentation needs a visible logo.
  • Slide styling: the intended look for ordinary content, rather than one unusual cover.
  • Review: who approved the version and which example file demonstrates it.

Keep required choices separate from preferences. “Use the approved logo” is a requirement; “try a quieter cover image” may still be an experiment. That distinction helps the next assistant improve the work without silently changing an agreement. The broader AI workflow guides explain how to keep useful outcomes from these sessions.

How do you add and place the logo?

Upload the file’s logo through Styles → Elements → Logo, then save the theme if it should be reusable. Uploading a logo and placing it on a card are separate actions. On an eligible plan, placement uses … → Page setup → Headers & footers → + → Theme logo, as described in Gamma’s logo instructions (opens in a new tab).

The guide limits headers and footers to eligible subscriptions; check it before making logo placement part of a team requirement. Do not read a missing logo as proof that the upload failed. First distinguish the asset you saved from the place where you expect it to appear.

Review a content card as well as the cover. Check whether the mark feels crowded, whether it competes with a caption and whether its background looks intentional. Save the specific result in fenbs through the approach in how it works, including any placement decision still waiting for approval.

Why did an older deck keep its previous appearance?

Gamma’s current themes belong to each file. A workspace preset is something you apply; later edits to that preset do not automatically flow into existing file themes. Older Classic gammas convert to file themes when opened, according to the theme guide (opens in a new tab).

Treat a brand refresh as a review of the files that matter. List the presentations that need the change, apply the intended preset, and inspect the result in each. Avoid writing “brand updated everywhere” when you have only tested one sample. A precise record says which file was reviewed and what remains.

A theme controls appearance. A template provides reusable content and layout. If repeated sections are the real problem, use the separate guide to reusable Gamma presentation templates rather than trying to make the theme carry the presentation’s structure.

Can you start with an existing brand presentation?

Gamma documents Customize → Themes → + New Theme → Import file for a PowerPoint or Google Slides source. Its theme import guidance (opens in a new tab) does not support PDF, Word, Canva or Figma as theme-import formats. Pick a supported source rather than repeatedly uploading a format the importer does not accept.

Choose a source that represents the brand’s ordinary use. A one-off event deck may contain unusual colors or imagery that should never become the default. Compare the resulting choices with the approved reference before saving the preset, and write down deliberate exceptions so they do not become accidental rules.

What should you check before calling the theme ready?

Inspect the presentation in the form your audience will use. Gamma says exports reflect Present Mode; its export guidance (opens in a new tab) also warns that receiving applications can handle fonts differently. An attractive editor view alone is not evidence that the final delivery is ready.

For the download procedure, follow how to save a Gamma presentation. Here the useful check is whether the theme survives your intended delivery: readable headings, sensible line breaks, correct logo placement and acceptable image cropping. Record which receiving application you checked rather than promising identical results everywhere.

How fenbs helps

Never lose the work you did in an AI session

After a useful AI session, save it in fenbs: the key observations, findings, research and context. Then carry on from exactly where you left off, on any device and in any other AI. The next AI you connect reads it at the start of the session, so you never have to explain the same problem again.

How to keep your approved theme choices with fenbs

Keep the choices that let you carry on from exactly where you left off, on any device and in another AI. The theme stays in Gamma; the saved explanation tells the next assistant what to preserve and what to check.

  1. Create a free account.
  2. Write the approved fonts, colors and logo choice in plain words, with a link to the example presentation.
  3. Save what you tested, which file you checked and what still needs fixing.
  4. Before stopping, write the next small step. Ask your next connected assistant to read it before continuing.

fenbs does not create or apply Gamma themes. If you only need to style one presentation and will finish it in Gamma, the theme controls may be enough. The extra record helps when the reasoning, review and next step must survive a change of person or AI app.

Questions people ask.

Does saving a theme update all earlier presentations?

No. Current Gamma themes live on each file. Saving a workspace preset makes it reusable, but existing files do not automatically inherit later changes.

Is a Gamma theme the same as a template?

No. A theme controls appearance, including fonts, colors and styling. A template supplies reusable content and layout.

Why can I upload a logo but still not see it on a card?

The logo asset and its placement are separate. Gamma documents placing the theme logo through headers and footers, subject to the feature’s plan requirements.

Can a PDF become a Gamma theme preset?

The documented theme-import formats are PowerPoint and Google Slides. PDF is not a supported input for that workflow.
