How to Use ChatGPT Record
ChatGPT's voice recording feature lets you speak a prompt rather than type it. Here is what it does, how to use it for work tasks, and how to save the agreed actions and decisions somewhere they last.

ChatGPT's voice input feature lets you speak your prompt instead of typing it. On mobile, tap the microphone icon in the message box. On desktop, the availability depends on your account and browser. ChatGPT transcribes your speech and responds in the normal way. You can use it for any task you would normally type.
For work tasks, voice input is useful when your hands are occupied, when you want to capture a thought quickly, or when you are reviewing notes after a conversation. The result is a ChatGPT response in text, just like a typed prompt. Tools like fenbs give you somewhere to put the agreed actions and decisions after the session so they do not disappear with the chat.
What ChatGPT Record does
When you speak into ChatGPT, it captures your voice, converts the speech to text and sends that text as your message. In the advanced voice mode (available on some paid plans), ChatGPT also responds with speech rather than text. In the basic microphone mode, it transcribes your speech and the response is text only.
Check OpenAI's current help pages for the exact features available in your region and on your plan. Voice features have changed frequently, and availability differs between the web app and the mobile app.
Using voice input for work tasks
Voice input works well for tasks you know how to describe out loud: drafting a short email, asking a question, summarizing what you just discussed in a meeting, or listing the next steps from a conversation you just had. Speak as you would describe the task to a colleague.
Be specific. "Write a one-paragraph follow-up email to a client who missed a deadline, professional tone, no blame" works better than "write an email." Vague spoken prompts produce vague responses, just as vague typed prompts do.
Recording the outcome of a real conversation
One useful application: right after a meeting or a phone call, speak a summary of what was agreed while it is fresh. "We agreed to extend the deadline to November 15. Sarah owns the revised proposal. Open question: do we need a second review from legal?" ChatGPT can format that as a decision log or a task list.
Give ChatGPT a clear formatting instruction alongside the summary. Ask it to separate decisions from actions, name the owners, and flag anything that is still open. Review the output against your memory of the conversation before saving it.
Format the following notes from a conversation. Separate into: - Decisions made (what was agreed, who decided) - Actions (what needs doing, who owns it, any deadline) - Open items (unresolved, needs follow-up) Notes: [PASTE OR DICTATE YOUR SUMMARY]
Checking the transcript for errors
Speech-to-text makes mistakes. Names, numbers, technical terms and proper nouns are the most common errors. Before using ChatGPT's summary as a formal record, read the transcript of what you said and check that the key details — amounts, names, dates, decisions — were captured correctly.
If ChatGPT misheard a number and you approve a summary based on that number, the downstream record is wrong. A quick read of the transcript takes thirty seconds. Use it for any output that will influence a decision or an action.
Save agreed decisions where they hold from session to session
In fenbs, Decisions and rules stores what was agreed and why. Once a decision is recorded there, every connected AI assistant reads it at the start of the next session. A decision captured after a voice session does not need to be re-explained next time.

What to do with the output after the session
A ChatGPT response is only useful while the tab is open or the chat is saved. Decisions, actions and open questions from a voice session should move to the place where the work lives — a project record, a task list, a decision log — before you close the session.
Do not leave the summary only in the ChatGPT chat. A new chat does not see the previous one, and if you need to hand work to a colleague or a different AI assistant, the chat history is not available to them.
How to do this with fenbs
- Create a free account. Add a project for the work you are discussing in your conversations.
- After a call or meeting, use ChatGPT voice input to speak a summary: decisions made, actions agreed, open questions.
- Review the transcript and the formatted output. Correct any errors in names, numbers or decisions.
- Copy confirmed decisions to Decisions and rules in fenbs. Add actions as tasks with owners.
- Update Where we left off so the next session starts from the current state of the project.
Privacy and consent when recording conversations
ChatGPT Record captures your voice and sends it to OpenAI's servers for transcription. Do not use it in a live meeting without telling participants. Do not use it to record a conversation with a client or colleague who has not consented. For a conversation that has already ended, you are transcribing your own recollection — that is different from recording the other person.
Check your organization's policy on using AI tools for work conversations. Some organizations restrict which services can receive work-related voice data. Check before you record.
Speaking a summary of a meeting you just attended is a useful habit for capturing decisions while they are fresh. It does not require permission from attendees because you are recording your own summary, not the meeting itself. The value is in turning a mental note into a structured record before the details fade. A two-minute voice summary immediately after a call is often more accurate than a written note done an hour later.
