How to Share a ChatGPT Chat on Desktop and Mobile
Sharing a ChatGPT conversation generates a public link anyone with the URL can open. Here is how to share on desktop and mobile, what recipients can do with that link, and how to save the decisions and next steps that the conversation produced.

Sharing a ChatGPT conversation generates a public link that anyone with the URL can open. The recipient sees the full exchange in read-only form and can start their own copy from that point if they want to continue the conversation.
The link captures the words in the chat, but not the tasks, decisions and next steps that came out of it. Tools like fenbs store that project record outside any one conversation, so the work is available to every connected assistant regardless of which model you use next.
How to create a shareable link on desktop
Open the conversation you want to share. Look for the share icon near the top right of the chat window. Clicking it opens a preview of the conversation and generates a unique URL for that chat.
Click "Copy link" to copy the URL. You can paste it into an email, a message or any document. Anyone who receives the link can open the conversation in their browser without signing in to ChatGPT.
The link captures the conversation at the moment you create it. Messages you add to the same chat afterward are not automatically included. If you want to share an updated version, you generate a new link.
What the person you share with can see
The recipient opens the conversation in read-only mode and sees the complete exchange from start to finish, including any images or files that appeared in the original chat.
The link does not expose your ChatGPT memory, saved custom instructions or any other conversations. Only the content of that one chat is shared. If the recipient clicks "Continue this conversation," a copy of the chat opens in their own account and any new messages they add stay there, separate from your original.
For a full download of your conversation history rather than a shareable link, see the guide on how to export ChatGPT chats. To hide conversations without deleting them, see how to archive ChatGPT chats.
How to share a conversation on mobile
Open the conversation in the ChatGPT app on iOS or Android. Tap the share icon in the top right of the chat view. The app generates the same kind of link as on desktop and offers your phone's share sheet so you can send it directly to a contact or app.
The resulting link works in any browser on any device. The person you share it with does not need the ChatGPT app installed.
How to manage and delete shared links
Go to your ChatGPT account settings and find the Shared links section. From there you can see every link you have created and delete any of them. Deleting a link makes the URL inaccessible to anyone who previously had it.
It is worth reviewing your shared links from time to time if your conversations include details that should not stay public indefinitely. A link shared freely remains public until you delete it.
What a shared link does not preserve
A shared link preserves the words exchanged. It does not preserve the work the conversation produced — the confirmed tasks, the decisions that were made or where the project needs to restart. Those outcomes exist as text in the chat, but they are not tracked in a form a future assistant can find and act on.
If you hand a colleague a link so they can pick up a project, they can read what was discussed but they cannot see which tasks are open, which decisions are still in effect or where the work left off. A project record that lives outside the conversation fills that gap.
The best way to treat a shared link is as a reference, not a handoff. A link to the conversation is useful context; it is not a substitute for a clear task list. If someone opens the link and asks "where do I start?", the answer should come from the project record, not from re-reading the conversation.
For more on keeping project work movable between sessions and AI apps, see the guide on portable AI memory. The page on sharing a ChatGPT conversation covers additional sharing options and recipient workflows.
Preserve the decisions, not just the link
Before you share a ChatGPT link, save what was agreed and what the next step is in a fenbs project. The next assistant that opens the project context reads those decisions and the current task list — not a long conversation thread. Create a free account, add the open tasks, and write the agreed rules as Decisions and rules so the work continues cleanly.

How to do this with fenbs
- Create a free account and set up a personal kanban board for the project the conversation is part of.
- After the ChatGPT session, add the agreed tasks to the board and write confirmed decisions as Decisions and rules.
- Use "Where we left off" to note where the next session should start, so any assistant you use next picks up at the right point.
- Connect your AI apps at Integrations so they read the project record when they start, not just a conversation link for context.
- When you share the ChatGPT link, you can also send the fenbs board link so colleagues have both the conversation and the live task list.
