AI assistants including Claude can help you build a Shopify store by writing the store brief, drafting product descriptions, creating page copy, and suggesting theme code changes. What they cannot do is click through your Shopify admin for you — every change still needs to be entered, previewed, and tested. AI is a capable assistant; you are the one who makes it live.
The requirements behind a store build change as the work progresses: approved designs, content decisions, launch checklist items. A tool like fenbs keeps those outside any one session, so the next AI conversation picks up where the last one stopped.
Write the store brief first
Before asking AI to produce anything, write a brief. What does the store sell? Who is the customer? What does the customer need to see on the homepage to feel confident buying? What is the tone — premium, affordable, playful, professional? What are the three or four pages the store must have at launch?
A clear description of your store makes every subsequent AI session faster. You paste your requirements into each conversation and the AI works within those parameters instead of guessing the audience or tone.
Product descriptions and copy
Product descriptions are one of the strongest uses of AI in a Shopify build. Give the AI the product name, its key features and materials, the intended customer, and the tone from your brief. Ask for a description of a specific length — typically two to four sentences for a product card, two to three paragraphs for a product page.
Review every description before it goes live. AI tends to reach for generic adjectives ("premium quality," "perfect for any occasion") that apply to almost any product. Edit those out and replace them with specific details that only apply to yours.
For page copy — homepage hero text, About page, FAQ — the same approach applies: give the AI your store description, a specific task, and a length. Read what it produces, edit for accuracy, and check that specific claims are correct before publishing.
Theme code adjustments
Shopify themes are built on Liquid, a templating language. Claude and other capable AI assistants can read and modify Liquid code, adjust CSS in a theme, and suggest how to add or change a section. Give the AI the specific code snippet you want to change, the current behavior, and the behavior you want. Ask it to explain what each change does before you apply it.
Always test theme changes on a duplicate theme before publishing them to your live store. Shopify's theme editor lets you create a copy; work on the copy, preview it, and publish only when the result is correct. Read Shopify's developer documentation for current Liquid syntax and theme structure guidance.
Keep your store requirements across sessions
Add your store brief, approved design decisions, and launch checklist to fenbs as project context. Every connected AI session starts by reading what is approved and what is still in progress — no re-explaining your requirements each time. Create a free account and add your store project today.

Using AI for product SEO titles and meta descriptions
Each Shopify product page has an SEO title and meta description that affect how it appears in search results. AI can draft these from your existing product description: give it the product name, the primary feature or benefit, and the intended search term, then ask for a page title under sixty characters and a meta description under one hundred and fifty-five characters.
Review every SEO title and meta description before publishing. A generic description that could apply to any product misses the chance to tell a searcher what specifically makes yours worth clicking. Edit for specificity: concrete materials, exact dimensions, and what the buyer actually gets.
Ask AI to write SEO metadata for a test batch of five products first. Read each one against the actual product and note where it is too generic. Give corrected examples back to the AI and ask it to apply the same specificity to the rest of the catalog.
What AI cannot do in Shopify
No AI assistant currently connects to your Shopify admin to make changes automatically unless you build a custom integration through the Shopify API. Every change — a product description, a theme edit, a new page, a navigation update — needs to be entered through the Shopify admin or your theme editor by you.
AI also cannot test payment flows, check checkout performance, or verify that fulfillment integrations work correctly. These are live-system tests that require you to place a real or test order and confirm the result yourself.
How to do this with fenbs
- Create a free account and add the store build as a project.
- Add the store brief as a context note: the product, customer, tone, and key pages.
- Break the build into tasks on the kanban board: homepage copy, product descriptions, theme adjustments, payment setup, launch review.
- Connect your AI assistant from Integrations. It reads your requirements and task list at the start of each session.
- Record approved decisions — the final homepage headline, the approved theme color, the content decisions — as Decisions and rules so they apply to every future session.
For building other kinds of online stores with AI, AI for WooCommerce stores covers a WordPress-based alternative. For broader website builds beyond Shopify, the same AI-assisted workflow applies: brief, draft, review, and test before going live.
