Notion AI and Google Drive: Connect and Verify Your Sources
Notion AI connectors can pull Google Drive content into workspace answers. Here is how to evaluate the connection, check which files are actually accessible, and keep approved source links in fenbs.

Notion AI connectors can extend the assistant's knowledge beyond your Notion workspace to include content from connected sources, including Google Drive. When a connector is set up, Notion AI can draw on documents and spreadsheets from Drive when answering questions. Tools like fenbs keep the project decisions and approved source links that should apply across all connected AI tools, not just Notion AI, so the confirmed sources travel with the work.
This article explains how to evaluate the Google Drive connection, test what files the assistant can actually access, and keep reviewed sources in fenbs.
How Notion AI connectors work with Google Drive
Notion AI connectors let you authorize access to external services and have the AI include content from those services in its answers. Connecting Google Drive means Notion AI can read documents and files from your Drive that the connector has indexed. The assistant uses this content alongside your Notion workspace pages when you ask questions or use AI features.
The connector only indexes content it can see based on the permissions of the account you used to authorize it. Files in My Drive are typically included; shared drive access depends on the authorization scope. Check the Notion connector documentation for current details on which Drive content types and permission levels are indexed.
Verify what the assistant can actually access
After setting up the connector, test what Notion AI can actually reach before relying on it for project work. Ask a specific question about a document you know is in Drive. Check whether the answer references that document and whether the content is accurate. The connector takes time to index content after authorization; allow for the initial sync before testing.
- Ask a question that only the Drive document could answer, not general knowledge.
- Check whether the AI cites the document in its answer.
- Verify the cited content against the actual document for accuracy.
- Test with a recently updated document to confirm the indexing is current.
Understand the authorization scope
When you authorize the Google Drive connector, Google shows you the permissions being requested. Review these before approving. The connector typically requests read access to your Drive files. Understand what files the connected account can see: if you authorize with a personal account, personal Drive files are in scope; if with a work account, workspace files may be included.
Consider whether all the files in scope are appropriate for the AI to read. If your Drive contains sensitive personal documents, client files, or financial records you do not want indexed, check whether the connector provides folder-level exclusion settings or whether you need to organize files before connecting.
Keep approved sources in fenbs
Once you have confirmed which Google Drive documents are the right sources for a project, record those links in fenbs. The Links and listings feature lets you note the URL, its status, and why it matters. Any connected assistant reads these at the start of a session, so it knows which Drive documents are the approved sources without searching through Drive or relying on the connector to surface them automatically.
This is useful when sources change. A document that was the approved version last month may have been replaced. Updating the link in fenbs and adding a note about the change keeps the approved source current for every assistant and teammate. See google-ai-tools for a broader look at Google's AI capabilities.
How to do this with fenbs
Use the Notion AI Google Drive connector for workspace answers and fenbs for the reviewed source links and project decisions.
- Create a free account and add a project for the work that spans Notion and Google Drive.
- After confirming a Drive document is the right source for a decision, add it to fenbs Links with a note about why it is the approved source.
- Write the related decision in Decisions and rules so the conclusion drawn from that Drive document is available to every connected assistant.
- Connect a supported AI app to fenbs via Integrations so the approved sources are available beyond Notion AI.
- When a source document is updated or replaced, update the fenbs link and decision so the record stays accurate.
Keep confirmed Google Drive sources where every assistant finds them
fenbs Links and listings store the confirmed Drive documents that inform project decisions, with status and notes. Any connected assistant reads them at the start of a session. Create a free account and add the first Google Drive source that an assistant needs to know about.

When the connector does not find a document
If Notion AI cannot find a Drive document you expect to be indexed, check a few things: whether the document is in a location the connector's authorization can reach, whether the connector has finished its initial index, and whether the document type is supported. Google Docs and Sheets are typically indexed; more specialized file types may not be.
If a document consistently fails to appear, move the relevant content to a Notion page where Notion AI will definitely have access to it, or record the key conclusions in fenbs as a context note so the assistant has the information it needs regardless of whether the connector finds the source.
