How to Use Claude for Lead Generation

Build a source-checked prospect research and outreach workflow. Keep qualification, factual claims, and the decision to contact someone under human review.

Use Claude for lead generation by defining your ideal customer, researching candidate companies from original sources, checking fit, and drafting outreach for human review. Keep discovery, qualification, and permission to contact someone as separate steps. fenbs can preserve the campaign criteria and research handoff when another person or assistant takes over.

The goal is a smaller list you can explain, with evidence for why each company belongs on it. A plausible company name, guessed email address, or confident summary is not a qualified lead. Start with what Claude AI does if you need the product basics before setting up the workflow.

How do you define a prospect Claude can research?

  1. Write your offer and the problem it solves in one sentence. Describe the business outcome without relying on your internal product vocabulary.
  2. Set observable company criteria: geography, industry, customer type, and a public signal relevant to your offer. Explain what would exclude a company.
  3. List acceptable evidence sources. Begin with company service pages, official announcements, public filings when relevant, and directories whose entries you can verify.
  4. Ask Claude to evaluate a small sample against the criteria, leaving unknown fields blank. Review the sample before expanding the research.

Say a hypothetical design studio offers accessibility reviews for online stores. “Businesses that could use better websites” is too broad. “US retailers with an active online store and a publicly announced redesign” gives the researcher something concrete to check. A redesign is a possible reason to investigate, not proof of an accessibility problem or a buying intention.

How do you gather evidence instead of plausible leads?

When you need current information, ask Claude to search and return the original source for each factual claim. Anthropic's web-search guidance (opens in a new tab) describes how search provides source citations. Open those pages yourself before putting a company on an approved list.

A prospect record you can review
FieldWhat belongs in itWhat to avoid
Company identityName, official website, and the business entity you mean.Confusing a similarly named company or subsidiary.
Qualification evidenceA specific criterion and a source that supports it.A general statement that the company seems promising.
Possible relevanceA clearly labeled explanation connecting evidence to your offer.Treating an inference as a confirmed need.
Contact routeA business contact method verified through an appropriate source.Invented addresses or inferred personal details.
Review stateWho checked the evidence and what remains unknown.A score presented as a human approval.

Check whether the page is current and whether a claim applies to the whole company or one location. If Claude cannot open the source, keep the claim unverified. Ask it to find contrary evidence as well: a retailer may have completed the redesign, or the offer may fall outside your service area. Rejection reasons are useful research output.

Keep the campaign criteria and their approved changes in fenbs project context. That prevents a second assistant from silently broadening “online retailers” into any company with a website.

How should you qualify the first research sample?

Review the first few records side by side. Can a second person reproduce the decision by opening the same links? Mark each company as fits, does not fit, or needs more evidence, and explain the reason. An unknown is not a weak yes; it is a research gap.

If you use a scoring system, define it before Claude sees the prospects. Prefer a few transparent criteria over a complicated number with no clear basis. The score should help prioritize review, not turn uncertain evidence into certainty. Do not infer a person's sensitive characteristics or build a campaign around private personal information.

Keep company research separate from your customer relationship management system, or CRM, where you track sales relationships. Check approved prospects against existing accounts and your do-not-contact records before outreach. The AI lead-generation platform guide helps with choosing software; this workflow focuses on research and review with Claude.

How do you draft outreach without invented personalization?

Give Claude only the approved evidence, your actual offer, and the action you want the recipient to consider. Ask for a short draft that contains no unsupported compliment, invented relationship, or claim about the recipient's internal problems. Have it list the factual sentences separately so a reviewer can check them quickly.

For the design-studio example, mention the verified redesign announcement and offer a relevant accessibility review. Do not say the store is losing customers unless you have evidence and permission to use that claim. Make the message useful even if the prospect does not buy: a clear description of scope is better than a fabricated urgency cue.

  • Identify yourself and your organization truthfully.
  • Use one verified reason the company may find the offer relevant.
  • Describe the real service and avoid promises you cannot substantiate.
  • Ask for a simple next step and route the draft to a person before sending.

A source link attached to the internal draft makes review easier, even when that link would be awkward in the final message. Save approved drafting instructions as a reusable prompt, then keep each prospect's evidence separate from the reusable wording.

What needs checking before any message is sent?

For US commercial email, follow the FTC's CAN-SPAM compliance guide (opens in a new tab), which also covers business-to-business messages. Its requirements include truthful sender information and subject lines, clear advertising identification, a valid postal address, a working opt-out method, and honoring opt-outs. Check the full guide and any other rules applicable to your campaign.

A human should confirm that the contact route is appropriate, the recipient is not suppressed, every material claim is accurate, and the message meets company policy. Respect the terms and access rules of your sources. Have the person responsible for campaign compliance review the process before scaling it.

Keep authorization to send explicit. Asking Claude to research or draft is not a standing instruction to message prospects. If your wider workflow uses connected tools, review their permissions and available actions. The Claude API guide describes a separate development interface; using it does not remove your review responsibilities.

How fenbs helps

Give the next researcher the same criteria

Keep campaign rules, research tasks, and approved decisions in a fenbs project. Before switching assistants, save which companies were checked, what remains uncertain, and what needs a person's review. The next connected assistant can read that record before researching another group.

How to do this with fenbs

  1. Create a free account and add a project for one campaign, including the offer and intended audience.
  2. Record the criteria and outreach boundaries a person approved in Decisions and rules. Add tasks for source review, qualification, and message review.
  3. Save research-source links and context notes that explain what was verified. Keep contact and suppression records in your approved sales systems.
  4. Connect your supported assistant using its setup guide and ask it to read the context first. Before stopping, save progress and the next review in Where we left off.

fenbs does not provide a prospect database, verify email delivery, or send marketing campaigns. Use a suitable sales system for those jobs. It fits the research handoff when the same brief must survive between sessions; a single short list may only need a spreadsheet. More AI at work workflows and the Claude service check can help when continuing the work.

Questions people ask.

Can Claude guarantee that a company is ready to buy?

No. Public evidence can support a reason to investigate, but it does not establish buying intent. Keep inferred relevance separate from facts the company has actually published.

Should I ask Claude to guess missing email addresses?

Use a verified and appropriate business contact route instead. A plausible address is not evidence that it belongs to the intended person or that contacting it is appropriate.

Does a source citation make a prospect approved?

No. A person still needs to open the source, check the claim, assess the qualification criteria, and follow the campaign review process.

What belongs in the handoff to another assistant?

Save the campaign criteria, checked sources, reasons for qualification or rejection, unresolved questions, and the next human review. Keep personal contact records in the systems your organization has approved for them.
