How to connect ElevenLabs MCP to your AI assistant

Use the official hosted server and browser sign-in, check which workspace and actions you approve, and keep the audio brief outside one chat.

To connect ElevenLabs MCP to an outside AI assistant, use the official hosted server at https://api.elevenlabs.io/v1/mcp and complete its OAuth browser sign-in. This is the documented connection for an assistant to manage ElevenAgents. It is separate from giving an ElevenAgents assistant access to an outside tool. Tools like fenbs keep the approved audio brief and tested findings outside one chat, so another connected assistant can continue the work without guessing what you already accepted.

Which ElevenLabs connection do you need?

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is a standard way for an AI app to use an outside tool. ElevenLabs documents both directions. The hosted server (opens in a new tab) lets an outside assistant manage ElevenAgents through OAuth. The external-tools integration (opens in a new tab) lets an ElevenAgents assistant connect to a server you add.

Choose the direction before setting anything up
Your goalConnection to useWhat to check
An outside assistant should work with ElevenAgents. The hosted ElevenLabs MCP server. The workspace and OAuth access you approve.
An ElevenAgents assistant should use an outside tool.Add Custom MCP Server in ElevenAgents.Workspace opt-in, server settings, and the agent you attach it to.
You want to edit a creative audio or video production.ElevenCreative Studio. Its editing workflow and model settings; do not assume every Studio action is an MCP tool.

Write the direction in ordinary words before connecting anything: “My outside assistant will manage this ElevenAgents workspace.” That sentence helps catch the wrong setup guide early. Our connection guides explain the wider pattern, and the separate Higgsfield MCP guide covers another media service’s connector.

How do you add the hosted server?

Use an assistant that supports the hosted connection, following the client setup in ElevenLabs’ hosted-server guide. The server uses OAuth, a browser sign-in where you approve access. The connection follows the workspace and scopes, meaning the allowed actions, that you authorize.

  1. Open the remote MCP connection setup supported by your AI assistant. Use the official hosted-server instructions for that client.
  2. Enter https://api.elevenlabs.io/v1/mcp as the ElevenLabs server address.
  3. Complete the ElevenLabs OAuth sign-in in the browser.
  4. Check the selected workspace and the actions requested before approving access.
  5. Return to the assistant and ask it to describe the available ElevenLabs tools before you request a change.

Start with a request that inspects information rather than changing it. For example, ask the assistant to identify what it can read in the connected workspace and summarize the intended next action. Confirm that the information belongs to the workspace you meant to connect. Do not use a successful sign-in as proof that the entire production workflow has been tested.

Keep a short test record: the client used, the intended workspace, the allowed actions, what you asked, and what happened. Exclude credentials and private conversation content. That record is more useful than a screenshot saying “connected,” because it tells the next person which behavior you actually checked.

Why should you avoid the old API-key setup?

The official elevenlabs-mcp repository (opens in a new tab) explicitly deprecates its local server in favor of the hosted server. Do not copy the old package’s API-key configuration as the preferred current path. Follow the hosted instructions instead of combining installation steps from the old server with the new remote address.

If a setup tutorial asks you to install that local package, check which connection it describes before continuing. A familiar product name does not mean two servers expose identical tools. In particular, a list of audio-processing actions from an older local setup is not proof that every action is offered by the hosted ElevenAgents connection.

If authorization fails, first check the server address, account, intended workspace, and approved access. If the assistant cannot offer a remote OAuth connection, return to the vendor’s supported client instructions. The general MCP authentication guide explains how to reason about a sign-in problem without pasting a secret into a chat.

What if ElevenAgents needs to connect to another tool?

That is the reverse direction. In ElevenAgents, open the MCP integrations dashboard at /app/agents/integrations, choose Add Custom MCP Server, configure its URL and settings, then choose Add Integration. Attach the saved integration to the intended agent. The external-tools guide supports SSE and Streamable HTTP, two ways for the connection to communicate.

External MCP requires a workspace-wide opt-in. A member with ElevenAgents access can accept the terms; it is not restricted to administrators. ElevenLabs says this external-tool integration is unavailable for Zero Retention Mode or HIPAA-enabled workspaces. Those are constraints on this direction, so do not treat them as a general explanation for every hosted-server sign-in problem.

Choose one small permitted task for the first test. Ask the assistant to explain what it will read or change, and check the result against the actual destination. Adding a server and attaching it to an agent are separate steps; make sure your test uses the intended agent rather than assuming the saved connection is active everywhere.

What should you keep from an audio session?

Save the purpose, audience, approved script, pronunciation requirements, accepted output, and unfinished checks. Keep a link to the media in its normal storage location. When relevant, record the voice ID, model, and settings as a recipe; this is a written production record, not a universal preset file.

ElevenLabs documents per-voice settings in its voice settings API (opens in a new tab). Its Studio guide (opens in a new tab) documents project-level settings and rendered audio or video export. Matching settings does not guarantee identical audio, and a rendered export is not an editable project transfer to another vendor.

For example, save: “Use the approved greeting in script B. The pronunciation of the product name passed review. The ending still needs a person to listen.” This preserves the useful result without copying an entire conversation. Our guide to building a prompt library covers reusable instructions, while organizing ElevenLabs Studio work covers the production itself.

Keep that accepted wording and the unfinished listening check in fenbs, so another connected assistant can tell what is approved before proposing a revision.

How fenbs helps

Never lose the work you did in an AI session

After a useful AI session, save it in fenbs: the key observations, findings, research and context. Then carry on from exactly where you left off, on any device and in any other AI. The next AI you connect reads it at the start of the session, so you never have to explain the same problem again.

How to keep your audio brief with fenbs

Keep the accepted brief so you never lose the work and can carry on from exactly where you left off, on any device and in another connected AI. The next session needs the approved words and next check, not another explanation from memory.

  1. Create a free account.
  2. Write what the audio is for, who will hear it, and which words have been approved.
  3. Save the source links, voice and model choices, accepted take, and review findings. Keep secrets out.
  4. Connect ElevenAgents to fenbs using Integrations. Follow the connection instructions and test the access you intend to allow.
  5. Before you stop, save what is finished and the next check. Ask the next connected assistant to read it before making changes.

fenbs does not create audio or make ElevenCreative Studio read your saved work automatically. For a one-off clip, a short file note may be enough. fenbs helps when several sessions or assistants need the same approved brief, findings, and place to continue.

Questions people ask.

Do I need the old local elevenlabs-mcp package?

The official repository deprecates that local server in favor of the hosted connection. Use the current hosted-server instructions and OAuth rather than treating the old API-key setup as the preferred path.

Is the hosted server the same as Add Custom MCP Server?

No. The hosted server lets an outside assistant manage ElevenAgents. Add Custom MCP Server gives an ElevenAgents assistant access to an outside tool. Choose the direction that matches your goal.

Can only an administrator enable external MCP in ElevenAgents?

No. The vendor says a member with ElevenAgents access can accept the workspace-wide opt-in. External MCP remains unavailable in Zero Retention Mode and HIPAA-enabled workspaces.

Will saving the voice settings reproduce the exact same audio?

No. Keep the voice ID, model, settings, approved script, and accepted take as a useful record, but do not treat that record as a guarantee of identical future generation.
