Claude Team vs Max: Shared Workspace or Individual Plan?
Claude Team and Max serve different needs. Team is for organizations sharing work; Max is for individuals who need higher usage. Here is how to tell which one fits your situation.
Updated 5 min read
Claude Team and Claude Max are not competing options for the same user — they are built for different situations. Claude Max is an individual plan for heavy users who need more usage than the standard paid tier provides. Claude Team is a plan for organizations: it supports multiple seats, shared workspaces, and admin controls that let a company manage how Claude is used across a group. Tools like fenbs work alongside either plan to give teams one shared record of project decisions, tasks, and context that any connected AI assistant can read — across Claude accounts and across AI tools.
This guide explains what each plan does, how to tell which one you need, and what to check when your situation involves both heavy individual use and shared team work.
At a glance: Team vs Max
| Feature | Claude Team | Claude Max |

| Who it is for | Organizations with multiple users | Individual heavy users |
| Seats | Multiple seats with admin management | Single user |
| Shared Projects | Team members can share Claude Projects | Personal only |
| Admin controls | Usage visibility and access management | Not applicable |
| Data handling | Business terms; conversations not used for training by default | Check Anthropic's terms for current details |
| Usage limits | Higher than individual plans; check Anthropic's plan page | Higher than Pro; check Anthropic's plan page for current limits |

What Claude Max is for
Claude Max is for individual users who regularly hit the usage limits on the standard paid tier (Claude Pro). If you use Claude intensively throughout the workday — for long coding sessions, extensive writing, or tasks that require many long conversations — and find yourself paused by usage limits, Max provides a higher ceiling.
Max is a personal plan. It does not come with the shared workspaces, admin controls, or business data-handling terms that Team provides. If you are a solo freelancer or an individual employee who uses Claude heavily for personal work tasks, Max may be the right tier. If you also need to share work with colleagues or manage usage across a group, Max alone is not the right answer.
The Claude Max plan includes higher usage limits than Pro, and depending on the tier of Max you select, it may include access to Anthropic's extended computing options. Check Anthropic's current plan page for the specific limits and features at each Max tier, as these have changed and will continue to change.
What Claude Team is for
Claude Team is for organizations that want to give multiple employees access to Claude with shared workspaces and administrative oversight. It is sold per seat, and an admin can manage who has access, see usage across the organization, and apply consistent settings.
The key team feature is shared Claude Projects. Team members can create Projects that others in the organization can access, which makes it possible to build shared instruction sets and context that multiple people use within the Claude interface. This is useful for teams that all use Claude in their own work and want to share a common starting context.
Claude Team also comes with business data-handling terms that matter for companies with compliance requirements. Conversations on a Team plan are not used to train Anthropic's models by default. Verify the current terms on Anthropic's site before relying on them for compliance purposes. See Claude Enterprise vs Team if you are also considering the Enterprise plan.
Share project context beyond what Claude Projects can reach
Claude Projects on a Team plan stay within the Claude ecosystem — they are not readable by teammates using ChatGPT, Cursor, or other AI tools. fenbs gives the whole team one shared board: projects, tasks, Decisions and rules, and Where we left off, readable by any connected AI assistant regardless of which tool each person prefers.

When you need both: heavy individual use and team sharing
A developer who uses Claude Code intensively throughout the day might need Max-level usage limits while also needing their team project context to be shared with colleagues using other AI tools. Claude Team covers the shared workspace need; but if individual usage hits Team's limits, the right answer may be upgrading the seat tier or looking at Claude Enterprise rather than adding a separate Max subscription.
Check Anthropic's current plan page for the usage limits at each Team tier and whether individual seat upgrades are available. Plan structures change, and the vendor's own page is the reliable source for what is currently offered.
What Claude plans do not cover
Claude Team's shared Projects are only readable within the Claude ecosystem. A teammate using ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot cannot read a Claude Project. If your team uses different AI tools — which is common — shared context needs to live outside any one AI app.
Both Team and Max also leave context behind at the end of a session. Decisions made in one chat are not available in the next one unless they are in a shared Project or an external record. For ongoing projects where decisions accumulate, neither Claude plan alone keeps that record current and accessible. See Claude Projects for Teams for more on how to use Claude's built-in features for shared work.
How to do this with fenbs
- Create a free account and set up a project for your team's current work. Add the goal, current tasks, and any decisions that apply to the whole team.
- Invite teammates by creating a team workspace in fenbs and giving each person an appropriate role that reflects what they can see and do. Roles control who can edit tasks, who can add decisions, and who is read-only.
- Connect AI apps over MCP from Integrations. Each teammate connects their preferred AI app — Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or another supported tool — and it reads the shared project context.
- Record decisions in Decisions and rules as the team makes them. Rules appear first to any AI assistant that reads the context, so the same rules reach everyone regardless of which AI tool they use.
- Save progress at the end of each session. Any teammate who opens the project next — in any AI tool — starts from the current state of the work rather than asking what happened in the last session.
