Claude Team Ban: Review the Restriction and Keep Work Moving

Distinguish an account suspension from an organization on hold, use Anthropic’s official review process, and preserve the confirmed work your team can still access.

Updated 5 min read

For a suspected Claude Team ban, read the restriction screen to determine whether your account is suspended or an organization is on hold. Use Anthropic’s official appeal or organization review route, involve the team owner, and keep ongoing work limited to approved information and systems.

Tools like fenbs preserve already-recorded project decisions, tasks, and next steps outside Claude while access is reviewed. They cannot lift a restriction or recover a Claude conversation that was never recorded elsewhere. A useful response combines a precise review request with an honest inventory of what the team still knows.

Which steps should you take immediately?

  1. Record the exact restriction message and when it appeared. Keep any screenshot and account notification in an approved private support record.
  2. Identify whether the message names your account or a specific organization. Ask the team owner to confirm which colleagues are affected.
  3. Follow the official route appropriate to that message. Do not treat an organization hold and an individual suspension as interchangeable.
  4. Assign someone to coordinate the review request and keep the support reference available to the people handling the incident.
  5. List urgent tasks and the approved records each one needs. Continue tasks with sufficient confirmed context and flag those waiting for inaccessible information.

For example, a studio might still have its approved client proposal in its document system while the discussion behind an unfinished revision is unavailable. The team can work from the approved proposal. It should pause any revision that depends on an unverified choice from the missing conversation.

How do the account appeal and organization review differ?

Anthropic’s safeguards and appeals guidance (opens in a new tab) says a suspended or terminated user should sign in with the affected account to access the appeal form. The same guidance describes a separate organization hold: an account in good standing sees the affected organization on the restriction screen and can select Request a review.

Use the message you actually see to choose the route. Provide a factual explanation of the work, the relevant time, and any context requested by the form. If someone else is coordinating for the team, keep the affected user and owner involved so the report does not confuse the organization’s access with one person’s account.

Do not guess the reason or promise colleagues a recovery date. Record confirmed messages separately from your own theories about what happened. An appeal asks the provider to review the restriction; it does not establish that the restriction was a mistake or guarantee that it will be removed.

Who should coordinate support for the team?

Ask the team owner to coordinate any organizational support question. Anthropic’s support guide (opens in a new tab) distinguishes owner and member support access and explains how an owner can escalate on a member’s behalf. Keep follow-up evidence in the same support conversation so the people reviewing it can see the full timeline.

A short incident record should name the affected organization, responsible coordinator, exact message, last confirmed access, review reference, and next check. Avoid copying unrelated client material into it. Support needs enough information to understand the access issue, not every project document touched that day.

Use the Claude Team plan guide for the broader workspace setup. Here, administration has a narrower purpose: establish the scope of lost access and use the appropriate official review process. Borrowing an owner’s credentials or making another identity to circumvent a restriction does not resolve that process.

What data can you preserve without assuming recovery?

Check existing approved copies first: final documents, source links, task records, and decisions people already recorded. Open important files and verify that they are the intended versions. A file name that says “final” is not enough if the project later changed direction.

Anthropic’s data export guidance (opens in a new tab) says Team member exports depend on an owner enabling the setting; Primary Owners use the organization export route. It also says a member’s chat export does not include uploaded file contents. A restriction can change available access, so ask the owner and support what applies to the affected situation rather than assuming the normal export path will work.

Do not delete the account or remove members as a speculative troubleshooting step. First clarify the supported recovery and records options with the relevant owner. Preserve the approved copies you already have under your organization’s retention and access rules.

How do you keep project work accurate during the interruption?

Make a project handoff that describes the last confirmed result, the person who approved it, remaining checks, and the next authorized action. Where context is missing, say exactly what is missing and which task depends on it. An uncertain task should not become completed because the conversation proving otherwise is unavailable.

  • Continue: the approved source and current instructions are available to the responsible person.
  • Confirm first: a teammate remembers a decision, but the team has not verified its wording or scope.
  • Wait: completing the task requires a document, approval, or account capability that is unavailable.
  • Review after access returns: compare the temporary handoff with the recovered source before resuming dependent work.

Shared project material and shared work context serve related needs. Our guides to Claude Projects for teams and Artifact sharing limits cover those collaboration questions separately. The ChatGPT Team ban guide describes another vendor’s process; its recovery instructions do not apply to Claude.

A fenbs project record can hold the confirmed decisions and the work waiting on a person, so another authorized teammate starts from the same facts. Keep private appeal details in the support record and share only the project consequences with the wider team.

How fenbs helps

Keep the next step outside one restricted account

Record verified decisions, current tasks, and missing context in fenbs. Where we left off gives an authorized teammate or connected assistant a readable starting point during the interruption. Save new progress there as work continues, without treating uncertain memories as approved decisions.

How to do this with fenbs

  1. Create a free account and add the affected project. Use a team kanban board with appropriate member roles when colleagues need the record.
  2. Add tasks for work that can continue and work waiting on access. State the missing document or approval in each affected task.
  3. Record the decisions people can verify in Decisions and rules, with the person who made each choice. Leave unresolved questions open.
  4. Connect an authorized supported assistant through Integrations. Ask it to read project context before working, then save progress and the next step before stopping.

fenbs does not appeal Claude restrictions, restore accounts, or import Claude chat history. It is not the right fit when recovery alone is your need. It helps your team preserve the working context you deliberately record, a practice explored further in the team brain guides.

Questions people ask.

Does an organization hold mean my personal account was banned?

Not necessarily. Anthropic describes organization holds separately from individual account suspensions. Read the affected organization and account information shown on your restriction screen before requesting review.

Can an ordinary team member export everyone’s conversations?

Do not assume that. Anthropic distinguishes owner-enabled exports of a member’s own chats from the organization export used by Primary Owners. Ask the owner which authorized route applies, especially during a restriction.

Is a data export the same as restoring Claude access?

No. Preserving available data and regaining account or organization access are separate outcomes. Follow the official review process even if you have obtained an authorized copy of some work.

What should we check when access comes back?

Compare the recovered sources with the temporary handoff, confirm any uncertain decisions, and update the next steps. Resume blocked tasks only after their missing context or approval has been verified.
