ChatGPT Projects Not Showing: What to Check
ChatGPT Projects not showing is usually a plan, account, or sync issue. Here are the checks that find most missing Projects panels.
Updated 4 min read
ChatGPT Projects not showing is usually caused by an account plan that does not include Projects, being signed in to the wrong account, or an app version that has not yet received the Projects panel. The feature appears in the left sidebar on the web and desktop apps, and in the navigation area on mobile. Tools like fenbs keep your project goals, decisions, and task progress outside any single AI app, so a missing Projects panel does not mean your work is gone.
Work through the checks below in order. Most missing-Projects reports resolve at the account or app-version step.
Where ChatGPT Projects appear
On the ChatGPT web app, Projects show as a labeled section in the left sidebar, above your recent conversations. The desktop apps for Mac and Windows place them in the same sidebar. On iOS and Android the location depends on the app version: look for a Projects tab or a navigation menu item. If you see no Projects section at all, the cause is almost always one of the account or app issues below.
Common reasons Projects are not showing
- Your account is on the free plan. Projects is a paid feature.
- You are signed in to the wrong account. A work email and a personal email can each have a separate ChatGPT account.
- The app is out of date. Older versions may not show Projects in the expected location.
- The feature has not rolled out to your account yet. OpenAI staggers releases, so timing varies.
- You are looking in a workspace where your role does not include Projects access.
- A temporary service issue is hiding the panel. Check the OpenAI status page if nothing else resolves it.
Check your account and plan
Sign out and sign back in, then confirm you are in the account you expect. Go to your account settings and look at your current plan. If you are on a free plan, Projects will not appear until you upgrade. If you are already on a paid plan and Projects are still missing, the issue is most likely the app version or a rollout delay for your account.
If you use ChatGPT through a workplace, school, or enterprise account, your administrator may control which features are available. Check with the person who manages the account before troubleshooting further.
If you use a work or school account, your organization may have restricted which ChatGPT features are available. Enterprise and education contracts sometimes exclude Projects or limit it to certain teams. Your IT or AI tools administrator can tell you whether Projects is enabled for your organization. This is more common in regulated industries where data residency or compliance requirements affect feature availability.
One more check: confirm the language or region setting on your account. OpenAI occasionally rolls out features to specific regions before others. If you created your account with a region that has not yet received Projects, it may not appear even on a qualifying plan. Check your account settings for any region or language options.
Update the app and clear the cache
On mobile, open your app store and check for an update to the ChatGPT app. On desktop, use the app menu to check for updates or reinstall the latest version from OpenAI's site. On the web, do a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows, Command+Shift+R on Mac) and then clear the site data for the ChatGPT domain in your browser settings.
If you use a browser extension that modifies the ChatGPT interface, try disabling it and refreshing. Some extensions rearrange or hide the sidebar. A private or incognito window is a quick way to test without extensions.
Sync problems between devices
If Projects show on one device but not another, give the app a few seconds after sign-in to sync. If they still do not appear, sign out and back in on the affected device. ChatGPT Projects are stored in your account on OpenAI's servers, so they should appear on any device that signs in to the same account and syncs.
If Projects appear on the web but not in the mobile app, the mobile version may be on an older release. Update the app and restart it. Keep your project context outside ChatGPT
fenbs stores your project goals, tasks, decisions, and where things stand outside any one AI app. If a ChatGPT Projects panel disappears or a session resets, your work context stays in fenbs and any connected assistant can read it to continue. Create a free account, add your current project, and connect ChatGPT from the Integrations page.

How to keep your project work with fenbs
- Create a free account at fenbs.ai. No credit card is needed.
- Add your current project: write a short goal, list the active tasks, and note where things stand right now.
- Go to Integrations and connect ChatGPT or another AI app over MCP. The integration page has a step-by-step guide.
- Ask your connected assistant to read the project context before starting work. It reads your rules, current tasks, and where you left off.
- Before ending any session, ask the assistant to save progress. That keeps the record current for the next session, even if ChatGPT Projects go offline.
fenbs does not import ChatGPT Projects automatically and does not read your conversation history. You decide what to save: the goal, the agreed decisions, the task list, and the current next step.
