ChatGPT Enterprise: Evaluate Fit and Organize Team Work

ChatGPT Enterprise offers more controls, higher usage limits and a stronger data privacy posture than the consumer plans. Here is what to evaluate before choosing it for your organization.

Updated 6 min read

ChatGPT Enterprise is OpenAI's highest-tier plan for organizations. It offers a stronger data privacy posture than consumer plans — conversations are not used to train OpenAI models by default — along with an admin console, single sign-on (SSO), higher rate limits and access to OpenAI's most capable models. It is designed for organizations that want to deploy ChatGPT to a workforce and need management and compliance controls to do so.

Evaluating whether ChatGPT Enterprise fits your organization means understanding what it provides, what it does not, and what other tools would need to work alongside it. Tools like fenbs keep shared project decisions and follow-up tasks outside any single AI product, so they persist across the team regardless of which AI app each person uses. For a broader look at team AI options, see apps for teams.

What ChatGPT Enterprise includes

The plan's core additions over ChatGPT Team are:

  • Data privacy. Enterprise conversations are excluded from training by default. Check OpenAI's current data processing agreement for the specific commitments and geographic coverage.
  • Admin console. Centralized controls for managing users, setting policies, monitoring usage and configuring which features employees can access.
  • Single sign-on (SSO). Integration with your organization's identity provider, which simplifies provisioning and deprovisioning employees.
  • Higher rate limits. More messages per hour than on lower plans, which matters for teams using ChatGPT for high-volume work.
  • Model access. Enterprise plans typically include access to OpenAI's most capable models. Check the current plan page, as model availability changes with OpenAI releases.
  • Custom instructions at the workspace level. Set instructions that apply by default to everyone in the organization, not just individual user preferences.

ChatGPT Enterprise vs. ChatGPT Team

ChatGPT Team is OpenAI's plan for smaller groups and gives access to advanced models, a shared workspace and some admin controls. ChatGPT Enterprise is a step up in scale and control: larger organizations, more stringent data handling, SSO and enterprise support. If you are a team of fewer than 25 people with standard data requirements, ChatGPT Team is likely the more practical starting point.

For organizations comparing ChatGPT Enterprise with Anthropic's enterprise offering, see Claude Enterprise vs Team. For coding teams specifically, see Claude Code for teams.

What to evaluate before choosing

  • Data residency and processing. Where is your organization's data processed? Which regions does the plan cover? Check the data processing agreement rather than a summary.
  • Compliance requirements. Does your industry have specific AI use requirements — financial services, healthcare, legal — that need verification before deploying ChatGPT to employees?
  • Identity and access management. Does your current identity provider support the SSO integration? Who manages provisioning and access removal?
  • Usage patterns. How many employees will use it, at what frequency and for what tasks? Estimate whether the rate limits on the Enterprise plan will be sufficient.
  • Vendor risk. OpenAI is a single vendor dependency. What is the plan if pricing, availability or capabilities change in ways that do not fit the organization?

What ChatGPT Enterprise does not provide

ChatGPT Enterprise does not make shared project decisions automatically available to everyone in the organization. It does not create a shared record of what was approved, what rules apply and what the team agreed last week. Each person has their own ChatGPT workspace; there is no native way to make a decision made by one employee visible in another's conversation without explicitly sharing a document or a chat.

It also does not provide audit history at the task level — what an AI assistant did, which tasks it changed, who approved what — outside of the broad usage monitoring in the admin console. For teams where AI assistants take consequential actions, that gap between "AI usage was monitored" and "AI actions were recorded and attributed" is worth thinking through before deployment.

ChatGPT Enterprise does not integrate with non-OpenAI AI products out of the box. If the team uses Claude Code alongside ChatGPT, those tools do not automatically share context. See copilot vs ChatGPT for more on how different enterprise AI tools relate to each other.

How fenbs helps

Keep shared decisions where the whole team can reach them

Add your organization's AI policies, project decisions and approved rules to fenbs. Connected AI assistants — ChatGPT in developer mode, Claude, Cursor and others — read those at the start of each session. People make decisions; assistants record them and act within the rules. History shows every change and who made it. fenbs is free for one person; team boards include roles and shared access.

How to do this with fenbs

  1. Create a free account. Start with a personal board to test the workflow before setting up a team board.
  2. Add a project for each active workstream. Write the goal, any AI usage constraints that apply and the decisions already made about how AI should work on this project.
  3. Record standing rules in Decisions and rules: the organization's AI use policy, data handling instructions, escalation paths. Connected assistants read these before starting.
  4. Connect ChatGPT or another supported assistant from Integrations. Developer mode in ChatGPT is needed for the MCP connection; check OpenAI's current help for plan requirements.
  5. Before each session, ask the connected assistant to read project context. Before stopping, ask it to save progress and any decisions made.

fenbs does not replace ChatGPT Enterprise. It adds a shared project record and decision history alongside it. If your organization uses multiple AI tools, fenbs keeps the project context available to all of them through the same connection, so a decision made in a ChatGPT session is available to the Claude Code session that follows.

Questions people ask.

What does ChatGPT Enterprise offer that the Team plan does not?

ChatGPT Enterprise adds enterprise-grade data privacy commitments, single sign-on, a more capable admin console, higher rate limits and enterprise support. ChatGPT Team is designed for smaller groups and offers fewer management controls. Check OpenAI's current pricing page for the exact feature comparison, as plan details change.

Does ChatGPT Enterprise train on my company's conversations?

By default, conversations on the Enterprise plan are excluded from model training. Check the current data processing agreement for the specific terms, which govern how data is handled, stored and for how long. Never rely on a blog post summary for compliance decisions; read the vendor's documentation.

Can ChatGPT Enterprise share context between employees automatically?

Not automatically. Each employee has their own ChatGPT workspace. Shared instructions can be set at the workspace level, but project decisions, current tasks and team rules do not automatically flow between users unless you put them in a shared place outside the chat.

What is the difference between ChatGPT Enterprise and ChatGPT Work?

ChatGPT Work is the name for OpenAI's workplace agent capabilities, renamed in July 2026. ChatGPT Enterprise is the subscription plan tier. They overlap but are different things: one is a plan with specific features and pricing, the other is a set of agent and automation capabilities available within certain plans. Check OpenAI's current pages for the exact scope of each.
