ChatGPT Agent on Mobile: Access, Review, and Continue Work
ChatGPT Work is available on iOS and Android through the official ChatGPT apps. Here is how to start an agent task on your phone, review its progress, and continue the work on another device.

ChatGPT Work, the autonomous task agent in ChatGPT, is available on mobile through the official ChatGPT app for iOS and Android. You can start an agent task, monitor its progress and review the result from your phone. The conversation syncs with your account, so work you start on a phone is visible on desktop and vice versa.
The main mobile limitation is the screen: reviewing a long agent output, a drafted document or a code block is easier on a larger display. For work that continues across devices or hands off to a different AI tool, a tool like fenbs keeps the task brief and next steps available outside the chat, so nothing gets lost between sessions.
ChatGPT Work on iPhone
The official ChatGPT app for iOS is available on the App Store. Once installed, sign in to the same account you use on desktop. If your plan includes ChatGPT Work (formerly the ChatGPT agent), the agent features appear in the same chat interface you use for regular conversations.
On iPhone the app also supports Voice Mode, which lets you have a spoken conversation with ChatGPT. This is separate from the agent task capability; you can use both on the same account. Check which features are available on your plan at OpenAI's site, as plan capabilities change over time.
ChatGPT Work on Android
The official ChatGPT app for Android is available on Google Play. The setup and sign-in process is the same as on iOS. Agent task features follow your account plan, not the device, so the same access you have on a desktop browser is available on Android.
If you do not see the agent option in the Android app, check that the app is up to date and that your plan includes ChatGPT Work. OpenAI rolls out new features to apps progressively, so the desktop web may show a feature before a mobile app update delivers it.
Starting an agent task on your phone
Open a new chat and choose the agent option from the model or task selector. Describe the task in plain language: the goal, any constraints and what output you want. ChatGPT Work then plans and runs the steps, using web search, code execution or other tools as needed.
On mobile, typing a long task description is easier in a notes app first, then pasting it into ChatGPT. Keep the goal specific enough that the agent does not need to ask clarifying questions. Vague goals produce more check-ins, which are less convenient to respond to on a phone.
Reviewing a task in progress
While the agent is working, the conversation thread shows its progress: which tools it has called, what it found and where it is in the task. On mobile, scroll through the thread to review each step. You can respond to a question or steer the agent mid-task the same way you would in a regular chat.
If you close the app and return later, the completed or still-running task is in the conversation history. ChatGPT Work tasks run to completion even when the app is in the background; the result is waiting when you return.
What mobile access does not include
The ChatGPT mobile app does not give the agent access to files on your phone unless you share them explicitly by attaching them to the conversation. The agent cannot read your photos, documents or contacts without your sending them. It also cannot control other apps on your device; for that, separate products exist.
Long-form outputs such as full reports or data analysis are functional on mobile but easier to read on a larger screen. If you expect a substantial result, starting the task on mobile and reviewing on desktop is a reasonable split. The conversation history keeps the result either way.
Pick up agent work on any device
Start a task brief in fenbs before you hand it to ChatGPT Work. After the agent runs, save what it produced and what the next step is. On a different device, or with a different assistant, the next session reads Where we left off and continues without you re-explaining the background.

Continuing work on another device
Because ChatGPT conversation history syncs across devices, a task you start on your iPhone is visible when you sign in on a desktop browser or the Windows app. You can review the result, ask follow-up questions or start a related task from the same thread.
Where this gets harder: handing the output to a different AI tool, or picking up a multi-session project several days later, when the conversation history has grown. An outside record of the task goal, the decisions that apply and the current next step makes both situations faster. How to do this with fenbs
- Create a free account and add a project for the work the agent will handle.
- Write the task goal and any rules as a fenbs task. Keep this outside the chat as the lasting record of what the agent is working toward.
- Connect a supported assistant from Integrations. On desktop, Claude, ChatGPT and others connect over MCP and can read the task before starting.
- After the agent run, note what it produced and what remains. A short progress note in fenbs is enough for the next session to continue.
- On a different device, ask any connected assistant to read the project context. It finds the task and the progress note without you re-explaining the goal.
The fenbs phone app (available on the App Store and Google Play) lets you review tasks and progress notes on mobile even when the AI tools themselves are better used on a larger screen.
