AI in Digital Advertising: Plan, Draft, and Review Campaigns

Separate generating ad ideas from choosing who sees them. Build a campaign workflow around approved claims, checked creative, and experiments you can learn from.

AI in digital advertising can help generate creative material and help advertising systems select delivery, bids, or audiences. Those are separate jobs: a good draft does not establish effective targeting, and successful delivery does not establish that an ad’s claims are true.

Start with the business goal, approved facts, and a review process before giving either job to software. fenbs can retain the campaign decisions and experiment lessons so another connected assistant starts with the same approved message. The advertising platform remains the place where the campaign runs.

How do you build a manageable campaign workflow?

  1. Write one campaign goal and define the result you will count. Specify the offer, audience, landing page, and person responsible for approval.
  2. Assemble the approved product facts and evidence for each proposed claim. Mark unknowns before requesting creative ideas.
  3. Ask AI for a small set of distinct concepts. Review the wording and images against the facts before adapting them to platform requirements.
  4. Review delivery settings separately, including locations, exclusions, conversion definitions, and any automatic creative changes.
  5. Run a bounded experiment, inspect the result against the original goal, and save what the evidence does and does not support.

For example, a hypothetical local design studio might advertise an introductory consultation. Its goal could be qualified requests from businesses in its service area. A dramatic rise in clicks would not settle whether the campaign is helping if those clicks produce requests the studio cannot serve.

How are creative generation and targeting different?

Different advertising decisions need different checks

Google’s Performance Max asset documentation (opens in a new tab) describes assets that can be generated automatically. Its audience signal documentation (opens in a new tab) describes information supplied to guide audience finding. These functions illustrate why creating the message and influencing delivery need separate review.

Do not assume that a description typed into an assistant becomes a restriction in an ad account. Check the actual campaign settings and the platform’s explanation of each control. A creative prompt saying “local businesses only” does not configure geography or establish how a platform uses an audience signal.

What should the campaign brief contain?

Provide the facts that would change the output: what is being offered, who it helps, what the landing page actually says, and what the campaign asks the reader to do. Include constraints such as service area, availability, required wording, and statements the company has chosen not to make.

  • Goal: the action the campaign is intended to encourage and why that action matters.
  • Audience: the relevant need or situation, without invented assumptions about individuals.
  • Offer: the exact service or product being promoted and material conditions.
  • Evidence: source links supporting factual claims and the person who checked them.
  • Creative boundaries: tone, approved terminology, visual restrictions, and who reviews changes.

Ask for concepts that differ in a meaningful way. One might explain the process, another might answer a common objection, and another might demonstrate a product feature. Several headlines that swap adjectives do not necessarily test different ideas.

Keep approved boundaries in fenbs Decisions and rules. A reusable prompt can tell the next assistant to read those decisions before proposing another campaign variation.

How fenbs helps

Give every draft the same approved starting point

Save the campaign goal, approved claims, and review rules with the project in fenbs. Add tasks for creative checks and unresolved questions, and retain the source links behind the message. A connected assistant can read that record before drafting without turning an unapproved suggestion into a decision.

What do you need to check before an ad runs?

Review the complete impression: headline, body copy, image, visible conditions, and destination page. An image of a product with capabilities it does not have can mislead even when the text is careful. Confirm that the advertised offer and the destination agree.

The FTC’s advertising basics (opens in a new tab) says advertising claims must be truthful, nondeceptive, fair, and evidence-based. AI-generated wording does not provide supporting evidence. Treat a proposed claim such as “best,” “guaranteed,” or a performance comparison as a question to resolve before publication.

Use a claim checklist: identify each factual statement, locate its supporting material, and confirm the exact scope. A test of one product version in one setting does not automatically support a broader promise. Ask the relevant reviewer to resolve uncertainty about regulated products or other specialized claims.

Inspect automated changes too. If the platform can create additional assets or adapt the destination, review those settings and the resulting material. Record which version a person approved so a later report does not quietly refer to a different advertisement.

How can you learn from a campaign without inventing causes?

Write the test question before seeing the result. Decide what differs, what should remain comparable, which outcome matters, and when you will review it. Track qualified outcomes alongside traffic so a stronger headline is not rewarded solely for attracting irrelevant attention.

If you change the audience, creative, landing page, and offer together, you may learn whether the combined campaign performed differently. You cannot confidently assign the difference to one headline. Use the platform’s appropriate experiment controls where available and label simple before-and-after observations honestly.

Have AI summarize the evidence in three parts: observation, possible explanation, and next check. Keep those distinctions when recording the lesson. An AI brain is useful when it preserves the limits of a conclusion as carefully as the conclusion itself.

How to do this with fenbs

  1. Create a free account. fenbs is free for one person, no credit card. Add a project for one campaign and write its goal in plain language.
  2. Record the person-approved claims and continuing communication rules in Decisions and rules. Put evidence references in Links and listings and relevant background in AI context notes.
  3. Create tasks for the campaign checks and put the review procedure in their plans. Save the reusable creative request in Skills and prompts.
  4. Ask a supported connected assistant to read the project context before helping. After review, save the result and next step in Where we left off, and record the experiment lesson.

fenbs does not buy ads, connect to advertising accounts, or optimize bids. Use your ad platform for delivery and measurement; use fenbs when campaign reasoning needs to remain available across supported assistants.

Where should you go for a more specific advertising question?

For broader practice, see advertising workflows; for selection and inspiration, see advertising platforms and campaign examples; for organization-wide changes, see the digital workplace and transformation planning.

Keep the immediate next step small: select one planned ad and check every claim against its evidence before requesting variants. The wider guide to using AI at work and the AI at work library cover other business tasks once that review loop is working.

Questions people ask.

Does AI-generated creative have to be published immediately?

No. Treat generated copy and images as proposals. Review factual claims, visual implications, required wording, and the destination before approving any version for use.

Can an audience description in a prompt control ad delivery?

A prompt is not a campaign setting. Configure and verify delivery controls inside the advertising platform, and read its explanation of what each control actually does.

Should you keep every generated ad variation?

Keep the versions you tested or approved and enough context to understand the comparison. Saving every discarded variation can make the useful lesson harder to find.

Can AI approve a campaign’s factual claims?

An assistant can identify claims and organize supporting material. A responsible person still needs to decide whether that evidence supports the exact advertisement and any conditions attached to it.
